Every Rolex we purchase that is older than 3 years old we have serviced. This watch sat in the original owners safe for over 20 years. During this time, the watch movement can dry out and gaskets and seals sometimes dry out and develop small fissures. So we replace those and lubricate the movement, and make sure all the parts in good order. It's like having a 2001 fine automobile sitting in a garage for 20 years: A dealer would most likely service it - change the oil, spark plugs, filters, lube it, etc.
