Good question! Ceylon refers to the location the sapphire was mined at. Ceylon was a country, now known as Sri Lanka, which produces a gorgeous velvety blue color. This stone is from this location, thus the "Ceylon" designation. It is a natural sapphire. Natural sapphires are mined all over the world, this one just happens to be from Sri Lanka, my favorite type.
